Oil on canvas, 100 × 100 cm, 2026

Exercise is precisely that - a massive amount of work that turned out to be learning only, as I am not happy with the outcome at all.

The idea was to demonstrate the pompous and grandiose side of the nature, to capture a moment of feeling dwarfed by the green edifice - lined up perfectly as if being imperative in direction, showing exactly where the light is and where to go. Trees were supposed to frame and protect, to feel like the titans upholding the whole structure of this little painting-world. I was thinking of Dali and Rob Gonsalves.

The intention did not come through, and here are the mistakes I think I made:

  • too chromatic

  • too many sharp edges in front

  • glazing did a disservice - the sky looks plasticky

However, I used a range of techniques including CAD modelling and 3D printing, so this was not all for nothing.
